If you
can’t afford to own a Motorhome, here’s why!
Remember: A liability is something that
takes money out of your pocket.
An asset is something that puts money in
your pocket.
1. I bring home my paycheck and it’s taxed before
I get it. ( liability )
2. I purchased a Motorhome and it's taxed before I get
it. ( liability )
3. I financed it, now I’m paying an interest rate
to the bank. ( liability)
4. I drove it off the lot and it just lost 30% of its value
due to deprecation. ( liability)
5. Finally, you get to use the Motorhome but you need to
work more to make the payments, the more you make the more
you’re taxed. The more you work, the less time you
have.
6. It’s hard to imagine how fast time goes by, even
when you’re not having fun. Can you believe it’s
been a whole year, the warranty has run out and we’ve
hardly used it? I’m wondering with all the overhead
you’re paying, what you’re going to do to cut
costs. Have you decided to park it in a campground or store
it in the driveway as an ornament?
7. Finally, you’re considering the option of selling
it, for example, you paid $70,000 for the Motorhome, now
factor in the sales tax, plus the interest on the loan,
and 30% you lost from depreciation.
8. The Motorhome is now for sale, you owe roughly $65,000
to the bank, and the book value is $57,000, where is the
additional money going to come from? You’re now in
debt $8,000 so while you're trying to sell it, you’re
still making payments and paying for advertising.
9. Thanks to the Internet, consumers can price shop the
same unit all across the country, and the only thing that
will separate your motorhome from the other 400 just like
it, is the price. So finally you reach into your pocket
or whip out your credit card and add $8,000 dollars assuming
you have $8000 dollars, realizing that you’ll never
do this again. Or you decide to trade the unit and get a
bigger one with more debt and all the same rules apply.
